VIDEO: UEW final year Gymnast dies after landing awkwardly

A University of Education, Winneba (UEW) final year Gymnast has died after landing awkwardly during celebrations upon completing his programme of study.

The student identified as Sani Abdul Majeed is said to be a talented gymnast with the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HYPERS).

The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, but he died on Thursday, September 9, 2021, talksportsghana.com has been told.

He represented the school at various competitions and stood out at his craft, performing complicated maneuvers.

Videos posted on social media showed Abdul Majeed in front of a group of students walking away from their examination center while he was attempting a back flick, but landed on his head.

He is said to have badly injured his neck and spine in the process and was rushed to the hospital, but medical help could not save his life.

The Public Relations Officer of UEW’s Students’ Representative Council released a statement to this effect confirming the news and also condoling with the family of the deceased.
