Ghana coach Otto Addo has named two Ghana Premier League stars in his Black stars squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers and the four-nation tournament in Japan.
They are Hearts of Oak talisman Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Bechem United’s Augustine Okrah. The two have played starring roles for their sides this season.
Former U-20 captain, Afriyie’s goalscoring has been on a high this season, stepping up to help the Phobians rescue their season after a poor start.
The U-20 Afcon winner has scored a career-high 8 goals this season for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League and also played an instrumental role as they are on the verge of defending their FA Cup title.
Augustine Okrah on the other hand has found the net 13 times in 29 league games for Bechem United and also scored a bullet free-kick to steer his side to the FA Cup final.
The former Asante Kotoko star has been a revelation since moving to Bechem to relaunch his career.
The Black Stars will host Madagascar at the Cape Coast Stadium on June 1 and play away to the Central African Republic in Angola four days later in the first round of the Afcon qualifying.
Ghana will proceed to play in the Kirin Cup starting on June 10. The four-nation tournament features Chile, Tunisia, and host Japan.
