GPL Preview

Karela Utd who sits 17th on the Ghana Premier League table, they welcome Kumasi Asante Kotoko to the Tarkwa Akoon Park on GPL week 13. Karela Utd who look like their old self after the NC special competition are rocked at the relegation zone of the Ghana Premier League.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko after their crises meeting talk with chairman seem to have rediscovered their rhythm against Bechem Utd coming from a goal down to shoot down the Hunters at the Accra Sports Stadium by three goals to one. Midfield galvanizer, Richard Senanu trained with the rest of the Kotoko team after over a year on the sidelines.

Karela on their visit to Dansoman were downed by a lone Kyei Baffour goal as they wobbled home with their palms turned upside-down. In Karela’s 12 league matches played this season, they’ve only gathered two wins and six draws. Their latest victory came in match week seven when they beat Legon Cities by three goals to nil at the Akoon Park.

The situation doesn’t look any good for Karela with the dexterity they marched into the NC Special Competition tie one finals. Though they have lost key performers like Sarfo Taylor to foreign transfers they should have had a strong team to compete for a safe position in the Ghana Premier League.

All doesn’t look good at Kumasi Asante Kotoko, especially at their goalkeeping department they have been huge calls for the return of skipper, Feliix Annan but Maxwell Konadu looks unmoved by those calls and has maintained Baa in the goal post for majority of the Kotoko fixtures this season. Going into the Karela game that’s one area a lot of fans will watch out for.

Kotoko will also be celebrating the call of Habib Mohammed into the black stars squad for the first time in his career while taking thoughts on the players to choose for this fixture.

Karela in their last six fixtures only won to Legon Cities, lost thrice and drew in two games. Karela United at home this season lost only to WAFA and have been able to hold Hearts of Oak and Medeama SC to valuable draws. This has established their home ground as a force to reckon with.

Kotoko on the other on the road, have lost two games to Aduana and Medeama while picking up three wins and a draw at Sagakope.

This match promises to be an interesting one and Karela, though are languishing at the relegation zone are capable of surprising Kotoko considering their first head-to-head game in the truncated GPL season in 2018, where Kotoko were hammered three-one at Akoon.

It is going to be a match between luxury and survival and it is interesting to know how people are desperate for survival when it comes to life but will that replicate for Karela?
