Ex-Cameroon star bashes Fifa for ‘shoddy’ work in Ghana, SA verdict

Former Cameroon midfielder Roger Feutmba has bite hard at Fifa for dismissing South Africa’s protest in their 2022 World Cup qualifying loss to Ghana.

The world football governing body threw out South Africa’s protest claiming match manipulation, bribery and corruption in the Bafana Bafana 1-0 defeat to the Black Stars last month.

Fifa said the protest was inadmissible as it did not meet the standard to be considered a protest.

Reacting to the verdict, Feutmba, who played for Mamelodi Sundowns between 1996 and 1999, wanted Fifa to do more investigations.

“I’m not impressed with that verdict, everyone saw what happened in Ghana. It is a shame what FIFA did and will send the wrong message about African football,” he told Soccerladuma.

“I think they should’ve done more investigation into the matter. It is very unfortunate for Bafana Bafana and this decision takes African football backwards.

“This shows that African football belongs to certain region, it is not good for the game but it was expected because there’s something wrong in the leadership, especially when it comes to sorting out African football.”

The South African Football Association said they will be filling an appeal after receiving details for the dismissal of the protest.
