“I’m sorry for my immature behavior” – Martha Bissah finally apologizes to GAA

Youth Olympic gold medalist Martha Bissah has finally apologized to the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) and then President Professor Francis Dodoo over accusations she made against them in 2015.

The 24-year-old was suspended indefinitely by the GAA for what they described as indiscipline and bringing the name of the association into disrepute.

Bissah and her entourage claimed the GAA was extorting them while working on a scholarship for her to move to the United States after her 800m gold medal success at the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.

The suspension barred her from competing in GAA-sanctioned events, as well as representing Ghana at any international athletics competitions.

She was asked to issue an apology to the parties involved to see her ban lifted.

After calling on several people including the Sports Ministry to get the GAA to lift her ban with no success, Bissah has now written a letter to the GAA as she begins the steps to resolve the situation.

“I wish to humbly express my sincerest apology and utmost regret for my behavior towards the Ghana Athletics Association in general and Professor Francis Dodoo in Particular sometime in 2015,” the letter reads.

“I am really sorry for my unprofessional and immature behavior as well as my subsequent defamatory comments.

“I know my actions have damaged our working relationship and hope this broken relationship will be restored to enable us work together again.

“I assure you that I will not act in that manner again.

“Please accept my apologies.”
